How to convert subtitles

Choose the format you need. SRT works almost everywhere. VTT is used by web video players. Plain text drops the timing.
Shift the timing if needed. Use a positive number to make subtitles appear later, and a negative number to make them appear earlier.

Tips for creators

YouTube, Facebook and most video editors accept SRT. Use VTT for web players.
If your subtitles run a little early or late, shift them by one or two seconds instead of redoing them.
Plain text output is handy for turning subtitles into a blog post or video description.

What is the difference between SRT and VTT?

Both hold subtitle text with timing. SRT is simpler and more widely supported. VTT is the web standard and adds a WEBVTT header and dots instead of commas in the times.

Will my styling be kept?

No. Only the text and timing are converted. Colours, positions and other styling are dropped.

Can I shift timing without converting?

Yes. Keep the same format and just set a shift value.
