Questions

Is this transcriber really free?

Yes. There is no signup, no watermark and no daily limit. The only limits are file size and length.

Is my audio or video uploaded?

No. This page does not upload your file. A one-time download happens the first time you use it, and it is saved for next time. To keep the tool free, the page shows ads from a third-party ad network, which runs its own code and may use cookies.

How accurate is it?

It is best with clear speech in English. Noise, music, strong accents and fast talking lower accuracy, and smaller languages such as Yoruba and Hausa are much less accurate. Always read the result before you use it. The Better setting is more accurate but slower.

Why is it slow on my phone?

Long files can take several minutes on a phone. Keep the screen on and this page open. A computer is much faster.

Which files work?

MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, MP4, MOV and WebM work in most cases. MKV and AVI often don't. If a file fails, try Chrome, or check that it has sound.

What are SRT subtitles?

An SRT file is the text with start and end times. You can upload it to YouTube or a video editor as captions.
